About this PDF

As part of the Research Spotlight series on WholisticMatters, “Safety and efficacy of purified clinoptilolite-tuff treatment in patients with irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea: Randomized controlled trial” investigates the ability of the purified clinoptilolite-tuff G-PUR® to alleviate symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome with predominant diarrhea (IBS-D). IBS is a chronic gastrointestinal (GI) disorder that can result in significant abdominal pain and altered bowel habits and negatively impact quality of life. Therapeutic options remain limited by their effectiveness and safety. Clinoptilolite is a mineral found in natural zeolites with high adsorptive and absorptive capacities due to its microporous crystalline structure. Clinical studies have demonstrated the ability of the purified clinoptilolite-tuff G-PUR® to reduce symptoms of GI issues and possibly enhance intestinal wall integrity.

Using a randomized, controlled trial, researchers evaluated the safety and effectiveness of G-PUR® in 30 adults with diagnosed IBS-D for 12 weeks. Participants receiving G-PUR® reported an improvement in multiple symptoms including abdominal pain and number of days with diarrhea per week as early as four weeks into the trial. G-PUR® was determined to be safe and effective over a prolonged period of 12 weeks in patients with IBS-D, indicating a potential novel treatment option for individuals with IBS-D.

This infographic was created from research published in the 2022 article “Safety and efficacy of purified clinoptilolite-tuff treatment in patients with irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea: Randomized controlled trial.”
