About this PDF

As part of the Research Spotlight series on WholisticMatters, “Binding and neutralization of C. difficile toxins A and B by purified clinoptilolite-tuff” investigates the ability of G-PUR®, a purified clinoptilolite-tuff to bind to C. difficile toxins and prevent their cytotoxic effects. C. difficile is a major public health problem worldwide, often resulting in recurrent diarrhea which can give rise to infections and other C. difficile-associated diseases. G-PUR® is a purified form of clinoptilolite, a zeolite found in volcanic sediments. The high adsorbent ability of G-PUR® led researchers to investigate its ability to bind and prevent the actions of C. difficile in intestinal cells.

Using an in vitro cell culture model, researchers tested various aspects of binding and cellular mechanisms related to C. difficile infections in intestinal cells. G-PUR® was able to effectively bind C. difficile toxins and protect the structure of the brush border and epithelial barrier. Together, these effects point to promising potential of G-PUR® as a therapeutic treatment for C. difficile-induced diarrhea.

This infographic was created from research published in the 2021 article “Binding and neutralization of C. difficile toxins A and B by purified clinoptilolite-tuff.”
