June 11, 2020

Robert Martindale, MD, PhD, discusses the increased prevalence of chronic, inflammatory conditions such as diabetes, cancer, and heart disease that likely comes from years of changing diets, increasing rates of obesity, and excessive inflammation.

The conversation revolving around inflammation is also changing, shifting to focus on resolving inflammation as opposed to blocking it altogether. Dr. Martindale describes how humans do need inflammation in the right amounts, and resolution is important to prevent excessive inflammation from increasing risk of disease. Important resolving factors include pro-resolving mediators, diet, exercise, and other lifestyle factors.
