How to Prepare a Beet
Chef Mark Allison takes us through the steps of preparing a beet for all of your favorite, delicious beet recipes.
With his gloves on (beets bleed), Chef Mark Allison takes us through a few easy steps to ensure high-quality beet preparation! First, he takes off the beet leaves – noting that they are great for soups and smoothies. When you go to cut the beet, first cut off the root, then cut through the middle so you have a flat surface to work with. From there, cut the beet halves into quarters, depending on what size beet you want!
Chef Mark recommends sprinkling olive oil and thyme on beets and roasting them in the oven for about 45 minutes, great for bruschetta or topping off a salad.
